October Desktop Calendar!

Hello and Happy October!

This has to be my favorite month -- Pumpkins, Fall, Ghosts and Goblins...Oh My! I chose to go with some fun pumpkins and a simple background. Like my spiderweb calendar? I sure had a great time with THAT in illustrator.

Here are instructions for downloading the file: Click on the desired image below to open it. Then you want to right click the image and "save image as...". Windows - right click "Set as Desktop Background" with the file on your computer desktop. On a MAC ~ just control-click on the picture on your desktop, then choose "Use Image as Desktop Picture." As always, this is for Personal use only and if you would like to share with your friends or Pin, please give me credit and provide the link to the image.

Blu Anchor Business Card Designs

I am in the process of getting my business license and I needed to brainstorm when it came to the particular "look" of my business logo. I wanted something strong, memorable, and most importantly, accessible. What I mean when I say accessible is that, something that can be utilized on many different products by the Blu Anchor brand.

To most who don't know, I served the Coast Guard for 6 years and I had the opportunity to meet some really great people. One of the most wonderful people that I met, was my husband of 7 1/2 years Brian. He is currently stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Elderberry here in Petersburg, Alaska. Though we "sail" from place to place around this great country, we both feel deeply connected to the sea. This is where the name Blu Anchor comes from.

The anchor symbolizes stability and strength, while the heart symbolizes our love of the sea. Blu, is for the "blue" uniform that I wore and Brian currently wears protecting the coast of this great country.

It means a lot to not only me, but to all Coasties currently serving in the Coast Guard, that they are recognized as a strong and steadfast bunch. What a great group of people! Though I do miss serving, I am happy to say that I did.

Here is the design that I went with:

Baby Shower Icons and Invites

I am expecting a little one and I was inspired to create my very own baby shower invitations and thank you cards! I originally started out doing an just a vector icon pack, but that naturally morphed into something much more exciting.

I looked around Etsy and the web for layout ideas and wanted a clean looking design. I took the advice from my fantastic and enthusiastic fans on my Blu Anchor Facebook page and they suggested that I add baby wipes and a diaper to the vector pack.

I am working with moo.com for the printing. Their paper stock is just beautiful and I think it will really take the invitations to the next level. I also ordered round stickers for the backs of the cards and I am sure they will "finish" the look that I am trying to achieve.

Here is the final design pack that I sent to the printer -- I went with a gender neutral color of purple because I am going to be selling these as a custom order at my Etsy store next year.

TDAC July Recipe Contest

Whoa! I am very honored and happy to be the winner of the July They Draw and Cook $100.00 prize. I had such a wonderful time designing my Star-Spangled Trifle and hope to do a few more in the future for Salli and Nate's website.

Currently, I am starting work on a project for the They Draw and Travel site. It will be a series of SE Alaska cities. Because I live in Petersburg, AK, I have access to all the small cities/villages of SE Alaska via the state ferry system. I want to try something a little different and hopefully continue to hone in on my style and move forward as an artist.

June Desktop Calendar

Hello from our new home in Petersburg, Alaska!

Here is the 2012 June desktop calendar. I decided to get it done a little early because we are moving into our new house on Wednesday and I will not have internet to post on Friday.

I was inspired to use the Alaska State ferry in this illustration because my husband and I made the journey on the M/V Columbia from Bellingham WA to Petersburg AK. I had some free time on my hands, so I decided to included all of the fun animals one might see on a voyage through the inside passage or around Alaska.

I actually have different plans for this illustration than just a desktop calendar - I will be using this design as a fun wall decal.

I will keep you all posted when the decal will available be on Etsy via the Blu Anchor Facebook Page

May Desktop Calender

Happy Almost May!

I feel kind of bad that I didn't get a desktop calender up for April. I have been packing and sorting all of my art materials, clothes and earthly possessions for our big move to the little town of Petersburg, Alaska. The movers will be here in 8 days and I still have so much to do!

I will be taking many pictures along the way and I will hopefully be inspired to make beautiful art as a result of my adventure, so stay tuned for some fun illustrations. I hope that you enjoy this desktop calender, I makes me think of my two wonderful Mommies - Georgia and Linda. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and much love to you all.

The final design for my website landing page.

Here it is - this is what the everyone will see until I get my full site developed. I like it because it is clean and clear. More is less and less is more, I have to embrace this because I seem to go a little overboard sometimes (pun intended). I have have always admired smart web design and though I am no web designer, I still have to showcase my portfolio effectively. Do you like those little social media icons? I had a such a blast designing them and working with the pen tool. I should have the link up by next week. Thanks for stopping by!

Logo design for website landing page

I have finally gotten time to start work on my website, so in the interim, I have decided to create a landing page with all of my contact info. Here is the logo for the page (brunette) and below that I will have my Facebook, Twitter, Etsy, etc. Do you know who that is? Of course it's just little ole' Blu - I love her. I also created a blonde version for all the fair haired beauties out there and a redhead.

Tiny Tomato Thank You Cards

I am sending out a few thank you/recipe cards for the wonderful gifts that I received on my birthday and I just remembered that I never showed you all my stamps for this Illustration. My First Foodie Illustration

Hello All! So this is my first time EVER doing a food illustration and let me just say...I had a blast! I have always struggled with my watercolor, but I decided to change it up a little and go for more of a collage look. All and all, I am impressed with my food illustration because It actually looks edible! If anyone out there wants to whip up a BLT salad, go on with your bad self and let me know how it turned out.

Meet Blu

I have some time on my hands and I have decided to brand Blu Anchor with a more effective logo for www.bluanchor.com. I am currently working on my portfolio website, but I need more of an identifiable symbol for my the Blu Anchor front page. So, here is the cleaned up sketch form my sketchbook.

As you can see, she (Blu), is much more in line with the Sailor Jerry tattoo's back in the day. I will be doing her finish in Illustrator and I am sure I am going to have struggles getting that "Sailor Jerry" style, but I am always up for a challenge.
